Hardware, Appliances, and a Missing Outlet

Adam and I went up to the house on Saturday, and saw some new developments:

6.14.15 kitchen
Hardware in the kitchen. Our field manager messed up our knobs and pulls (I wanted us to pick our own), but they’re actually fine. We’d rather spend our money elsewhere so are going to leave them. The planning center isn’t new, but I don’t think I’ve put up a photo before.

Here’s one of the lights in the foyer (there are 2). There are a handful of other lights the builder put in (above the stairs, in the mudroom, in the planning center, etc.) that I forgot to take a picture of. They’re super ugly. We’re calling them the “boob lights” if that gives you an idea of what they look like. I guess they’ll have to work for now.

Not much new in the living room here except the paint (which is whiter and brighter in real life).

The builder forgot the outlet we added to the master bathroom’s cabinets (and paid extra for). Maybe it just got covered up, like one of the can lights in the living room? We’ll see what our field manager says…

We also bought a fridge and a washer/dryer set this weekend. I do not want to even admit to myself how much time we spent debating different appliances. Sometimes there is such a thing as too much research. You’d think I would have learned my lesson after wedding planning, but apparently not. It paid off, though: I’m super excited about the washer–it has a sink! We didn’t put a utility sink in the laundry room ($$) so I’m so glad this was an option.

The house is getting really close to finished. Here’s what’s left (at least as of Saturday):

  • Carpets
  • Landscaping (evening out the lawn, sodding the front, seeding the back, planting 3 trees, and putting one mulched bed with some bushes in the front)
  • Driveway
  • Punch list issues and touch ups
  • Outlet in the bathroom! (hopefully)

Tomorrow is our home inspection with the third-party company.  Cross your fingers that everything goes well! This weekend we’re  planning to go through the house carefully with our own punch list so we can be ready for the punch list walk through with the field manager. I found some example punch lists through Houzz that should be really useful; I’ll post them here later. We also have our homeowners’ walk through next week where we’ll learn where all the important things are (gas shut off, electric meter, etc.) and how to use the appliances, fireplace, etc.  And then… closing! And moving! Yikes! :)
